I installed ubuntu alongside windows 8 on my UEFI system then used the boot repair method to convert the ubuntu bootloader into a UEFI one.

Now i wish to change to my gentoo install (already set up in 2 partitions), but it says invalid sector size 65535 when i try booting into it.

I am using the ubuntu Grub with the system in UEFI mode.

Is there any more information on how I could fix this?

Does anyone know how i could change from the ubuntu grub install to a gentoo one?

Interestingly the error has also changed to saying invalid file for my kernel instead of the original error, despite me not changing anything

it appears that sda7 is the gentoo boot partition with legacy grub installed and sda8 is the gentoo root partition. Is that correct??
The sample grub.conf reported in sda7 suggests that you used a 32 bit tarball for gentoo. Is that correct??
Code:
 eselect profile list
will show amd64 if a 64 bit tarball was used.
If so, the easiest way may be to setup gentoo to chainload: boot ubuntu, as root: mkdir /mnt/gentoo,
Code:
mount /dev/sda8 /mnt/gentoo
mount /dev/sda7 /mnt/gentoo/boot
mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc
mount --rbind /sys /mnt/gentoo/sys
mount --rbind /dev /mnt/gentoo/dev
chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
source /etc/profile
export PS1="(chroot) $PS1"
grub
find /boot/grub/stage1

assuming the answer includes (hd0,6)
Code:
root (hd0,6)
result should say filesystem is ext3
Code:
setup (hd0,6)
result should report sectors embedded and success
Code:
quit

Code:
ls /boot
Determine the name of the kernel, and if applicable, the name of the initramfs for use in editing grub.conf.
Code:
nano /boot/grub/grub.conf
for a manual kernel:
Quote:
default 0
timeout 5

title Gentoo Linux
root (hd0,6)
kernel (hd0,6)/boot/name of kernel root=/dev/sda8
for genkernel:
Quote:
default 0
timeout 5

title Gentoo Linux
root (hd0,6)
kernel (hd0,6)/boot/name of kernel root=/dev/ram0 real_root=/dev/sda8
initrd (hd0,6)/boot/name of initramfs
graceful exit:

Code:
exit
cd
umount -l /mnt/gentoo/dev{/shm,/pts,}
umount -l /mnt/gentoo{/boot,/proc,}

Edit ubuntu's /etc/grub.d/40_custom to add
Quote:

# Chainload Gentoo
menuentry "Chainload Gentoo" {
set root=(hd0,7)
chainloader +1
}
run
Code:
update-grub
to regenerate /boot/grub/grub.cfg
Code:
cat  /boot/grub/grub.cfg to find if a gentoo entry was added. Reboot to gentoo.
