Code:
quickpkg "*/*"
presumably includes default config files
Code:
quickpkg --include-config=y "*/*"
all config files from rescue
if you have not run /etc/update in rescue no difference and first is shorter

auddoula,

You should not need a kernel in the rescue chroot, since there should be no need to build anything against it there.
By the time you need to build against the kernel, you main install should be working.

If I've got that wrong, you should bind mount /usr/src from the main install to /usr/src in the rescue chroot, so you have the main systems kernel tree.
This works for building the kernel by hand but not with genkernel as genkernel will get in a mess in the install step.

OK, I have another 50 packages left... Just to make sure, by exiting the rescue chroot I will be doing this from the first chroot (the broken system), right?

if you hit a stop and keep-going kicks in the emerge gets recalculated before resuming and the resolution of soft blocks may add packagesand change the build order -- I think, never studied the problem

Right, I can understand that, but I was away from the computer... So, I don't think I hit a stop though. But I am not going to lose my sleep over this as long as my system comes back to life!

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "webkit"

emerge: Maybe you meant any of these: dev-qt/qtwebkit, dev-util/weblint, net-libs/webkit-gtk?

it is taking for ever.. however I notced this:
make -j10 -j1 all-data-local

does it imply make.conf gets somehow overwritten and only one CPU is used to compile?

In any case, epiphany did not cooperate:

wgetpaste /var/tmp/portage/www-client/epiphany-2.30.6-r1/temp/build.log

there are, I believe, some shaky packages where the ebuild or the make file itself limits the threads because there is an observed sequencing problem
