Good evening,

I have been slowly making my way through the Gentoo handbook (x86) installation and have run across a problem I cannot figure out on my own. I am installing in VirtualBox (...and many Windows 8-crashes-during installation later... here I am). Since I'm relatively new to Linux, and am completely new to Gentoo; I decided to go with using genkernel to configure my kernel. I use the command
Code:
# genkernel all
, and after a very long wait; it appears to be successful. According to the handbook, I should next check the kernel image name and initrd using the following code.
Code:
# ls /boot/kernel* /boot/initramfs*
The problem is, there's nothing showing up in /boot. Have the locations changed? Have I made some obvious installation mistake? Should I not be using chroot at this point? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

PS- The handbook link is: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?full=1#genkernel
I am working in Section 7.c., specifically code listing 3.3, but I'd guess I've made some obvious mistake in the steps prior.

The command should read:
Code:

genkernel --install all

I think default has changed.

It's still just all. the OP forgot to create a boot partition then mount it at /mnt/gentoo/boot
