Anyone seen this issue?

I tried building and running Linux-3.12.6 (x86-64) and after 7 hours or so of running two virtual machines(VM's), I end up with about 4GB of RAM in cache memory that I can't drop_caches. I don't see anything in my tmpfs that seems to add up to 4GB and that 4GB does not seem to swap out or releaseable. I don't see anything in top or slabtop that could point to this immense memory usage.

I had one of my VM's crash when it ran out of memory due to that 4GB stuck in RAM and ran out of swap.

This machine has 6GB of RAM.

Anyone see something like this recently?

Actually not solved:

I think 3.12.6 is a dud, using 3.12.7 seems to work better but also is leaking? After 9 days of uptime there's 1.4GB RAM in cache memory that stays stuck in memory...

Code:
sync && echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches

Should drop the cache.

Some more informations may be in /proc/meminfo.

But a oom should not happen by the normal cache...

Exactly, I did drop the cache as said and "cached" number is still 4GB. I was hoping to avoid an OOM situation by adding swap but I was too late, the most important VM running got killed when it ran out of memory. I have a feeling that swap really wouldnt help as the VM image (locked memory) and cache memory cannot be evicted to swap anyway. The 4GB leaked/locked memory and two VM images basically eats up all physical memory meaning the machine is going down soon.

Will see if 3.12.7 exhibits the same issue... and see if my other 3.12.6 machine does the same or not...

Crosses fingers...
3.12.7 looks OK so far. After 8 hours it seems to not be leaking memory. 3.12.6 looks like a dud.

[edit]

After 9 days of uptime it looks like 1.4GB leaked away... still not fixed...

[Edit]

Could this finally fix the leaks?
