I recently installed gentoo on a new machine and have a couple of
problems with blanking and getting the monitor to shut off.

I've spent some considerable time googling and going through a
number of gentoo docs without positive results.

I boot to runlevel 3.

the video card is a GeForce GTX 660 SC and am using its DisplayPort
to connect it to a Asus PA246Q monitor.

I'm running the 'nouveau' driver for the first time on this fresh
install. xfce4 runs fine.

I have two problems:

1) full screen consoles do not blank, nor turn off the monitor.
'setterm -blank 1 -powerdown 5' will cause the blinking cursor
to disappear, but the rest of the text on the screen remains,
and the monitor does not shutoff.

2) in xfce4, xscreensaver runs, and I get the matrix screensaver,
goes into standby, the screen goes black, but I can see that
the screen still has power, and the monitor never turns off.

previously with 'nvidia-drivers' and this same graphic card and
monitor I didn't have these problems.

comparing the kernel configs seen below with the same greps from the
previous good, I didn't see any substantial differences in settings.

Any ideas?

here is the current info, let me know if there is other info I can
provide.

thank you for your help.

Once I switched from the nouveau driver to the nvidia driver, the problem disappeared.

So, it appears that my net search on this problem, which returned few posts of problems
similar ot mine, that implicated a problem with the nouveau driver and DisplayPort monitor
connections appears to have been correct.
