Need help....

I have installed gentoo on a Hp ProBook 430 -
Code:

04:00.0 Network controller: Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 / AR9565 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)

I started from having the wireless card but not being able to connect to anythig because of errors like

Code:

 ioctl[SIOCSIWENCODEEXT]: Invalid argument

(there where about 9 different arguments while using wpa_supplicant), to not being able to have the wireless card at all.

I should mention it worked on ubuntu with ath9k and on live cd it seemed up (never used it though).

lsmod
Code:

Module                  Size  Used by
ath9k                 142880  0
ath9k_common            1839  1 ath9k
ath9k_hw              394978  2 ath9k_common,ath9k

dmesg
Code:

3.10.25 does not support your nic
I would (in tedious and probably unnecessary detail)
Code:
echo "sys-kernel/gentoo-sources ~amd64" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
emerge gentoo-sources
eselect kernel list
eselect kernel set #latest version listed
cd /usr/src/linux;make oldconfig
make menuconfig # shuffle through to check it
make && make modules_install && make install
adjust the bootloader to recognize the new kernel

Thanks!

This worked as I get my card back.
Now I get this:

Code:
/etc/init.d/net.wlo1 restart
 * Bringing up interface wlo1
 *   Starting wpa_supplicant on wlo1 ...
Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant                                                                                                      [ ok ]

 *   Backgrounding ... ...
 * WARNING: net.wlo1 has started, but is inactive

ifconfig
Code:

suggest /etc/conf.d/net
Quote:
modules_wlo1="wpa_supplicant"
wpa_timeout_wlo1=15
wpa_supplicant_wlo1="-Dnl80211"
#wpa_supplicant_wlo1="-Dwext"
modules_wlo1="dhcpcd"
config_wlo1="dhcp"

dhcpcd_wlo1="-t 10"
nl80211 is a newer better performing driver for most people, believe module should be dhcpcd; configuration should be dhcp
Code:
 /etc/init.d/net.wlo1 restart
if trouble persists, try
Code:
emerge wireless-tools
iwconfig
iwlist scan
if wlo1 reports "no wireless extensions." try editing menuconfig to
Quote:
-*- Networking support --->
-*- Wireless --->
--- Wireless

[*] nl80211 testmode command
[ ] enable developer warnings
[ ] cfg80211 regulatory debugging

and recompile kernel. powersaving used to be a problem source, may still be. wireless extensions choice is sometimes needed even with an nl80211 driver. If problems still persist, if your psk in wpa_supplicant is in fact a phrase it should usually be in quotes. try it in and out of quotes. better yet, if you emerged wpa_supplicant with qt4 use flag and have a GUI run wpa_gui and set up your network using wpa_gui.
