I have a small funtoo machine (K6/1Go) for a personal web server.

Because emerging can take a very long time, I should be able to disconnect from my funtoo at any time without kill compilations.

I can do something like that 'nohup emerge @world > log' into an ssh or an remote display console, but I don't like this way.

I'm looking for an independent tty from any X console or ssh session or for a web-service that can give me a permanent console from which I can disconnect and reconnect at any time.

Show me the right way please ...

there is also tmux...

though id personally rather wrap your emerge syncing and updating world into a bash script and drop it into cron.

This is an excellent way to have the system mysteriously break one day. Never run unattended updates of packages for which you have modified the configuration files. For packages with unmodified configurations, only use unattended updates for them if you also include a phase to accept the new upstream defaults, and then only if the new defaults are appropriate for your system.

screen is perfect for me
I'll test Tmux later ..

But, agreement with Hu, I think that croning emerge --sync && emerge @world is dangerous.
