Hi All,

i'm trying to install a system without a separate boot partition. So only a /boot. This was never a problem and has some advantages (https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-220302.html). However with my new reinstall i'm trying to emerge grub2 and it fails, complaining it cannot mount the /boot partition. ( i fail to see that files are that "important" that they should own their own partition). Is there a trick to emerge this without separate boot partitionor an alternative bootloader?

thanks in advance.

you can use the DONT_MOUNT_BOOT flag. Here's some options for how to set it:

Though to be honest, it should be reading you fstab to determine if you have /boot on a separate partition. Could you pastebin you fstab and post it here?
