I just put http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Btrfs_native_system_root out there. This is a howto for doing a multi-drive btrfs set with boot switched to using btrfs and root living in a subvolume. I found that I still have to do an initramfs setup when root is in a subvolume of a multi-drive set. However I show the way to embed it into the kernel image so that you can just run grub2-mkconfig without having to do much more than specify GRUB_DEVICE in the /etc/default/grub config file.

Oh yeah.... the exercise switches to doing gpt based partitioning and grub2. grub2 and recent kernels can find and work with at least a mirrored /boot filesystem on a default btrfs volume with simple options.

I've been working on fixing the init script in the initramfs to parse the /proc/cmdline for root filesystem parameters and will update the page later. This will allow interactive or simple grub2 stanzas to flip between root filesystem snapshots when booting.

Thank you very much for this. I noticed that you set compression on a subvolume level - I suppose this will not work as intended when looking at this wiki.

Actually I think it does but I haven't looked at it that closely. I should do a before and after when pushing VM subvolumes around but I do have a fair amount of pre-compressed stuff (/distfiles, etc) that muddle the result.
