Hello there, help me please..
I have the following problem: I need to build stage3, so i have to find it's sources and scripts for building. Is it possible?
Sources are needed for making changes, then compiling.
Or maybe there are another ways to achieve it?
I've read about building stage3 from stage1 or stage2, but i thought it's not that i need, i can't get stage sources this way.
Any help will be appreciated.

You need dev-util/catalyst - I've downloaded it for a similar purpose, but
haven't had time to look at it.

Hi,

besides catalyst, there is the possibility to just follow the install guide to the point where you chroot. Then just do an "emerge -eD world --fetchonly" to grab all the sources. You can then throw your patches to /etc/portage/patches or manipulate the tarballs under /usr/portage/distfiles directly and regenerate the digest/manifest of the affected packages.
After that, just issue an "emerge -eD world", leave the chroot and build a tarfile of it (probably without /usr/portage ;-).

HTH, cheers

Thank you very much!) you saved my day!!
Sorry for another question, but what about hardened stage 3?
Same steps, but with hardened distfiles?

Yeah, sure. Hardened isn't that much of a difference... Its more or less built from the same source tarballs, just compiled a bit different!

sry for stupid questions :D
but i've back to the project where i need to build hardened stage3
i've done emerge -eD world, so i have a lot of directories in portage and a lot of distfiles
now i want the following:
1)grab hardened sources, patch with them files (what files?) and create a tar.bz2 file, so this file will be just like the stage3-i686-hardened.tar.bz2 on official gentoo website
2)create portage.tar.bz2 just like the original file on official gentoo website
I'll be very thankful if anybody shows an example how to do this
