Greeting, all:

I have a W7U/Gentoo dual boot system UEFI system. I'm having issues being able to UEFI boot into the Gentoo install-amd64-minimal ISO image. I can access it the more usual isolinux fashion, but that doesn't seem to give me access to the UEFI registers in /sys so that I am able to add EFI/Gentoo/grubx64.efi to the boot choices using the uefi tools. I've opened the ISO image to see what might be the problem, and I'm wondering about folder and file names. I see nothing in the image's root directory ending in .efi, and there is no EFI directory in the root directory. I do see the 9476KB file named "gentoo.efimg" and a folder named "gentoo.efimg.mountPoint" which does contain an EFI directory along with elilo. Do I need to alter the ISO image, by bringing everything in "gentoo.efimg.mountPoint" into the root directory and deleting the isolinux directory?

I should point out that UEFI boot was working flawlessly for both Grub and W7 until the last time I updated the kernel and ran grub2-install. The grub package had recently been updated, and I'm guessing it did something with the entries in /sys/firmware/efi/vars.

Thanks, in advance for your thoughts on this matter!

system rescue cd boots in uefi, I've not been able to persuade the minimal install cd to do so.

Thanks, MarMar. That was the right solution. I could not access the cd in uefi mode. However, I did copy everything on the CD to a flash drive I had partitioned as EFI. Booted easily. I used grub to restore the missing gentoo entry, and everything is now working as it should.
