I am following the Power management/HOWTO for my Dell Laptop. In the HOWTO it asks for you to start and add laptop_mode to default runlevel. Obviously laptop_mode uses ACPID, my question is. Why does ACPI Gentoo WiKi ask to add acpid to default runlevel and Power management/HOWTO does not?

i am not following the ACPI Gentoo WiKi but i went over it and noticed it is for acpid and acpid is a laptop-mode-tools Dependency..

Thanks...

Oddly enough, acpid should be running on all (modern) machines, laptop or not, because of the "C" portion of aCpi.
Not sure why it didn't autostart acpid though. Either way it seems the fact that it needs to be started was omitted...

Well, i don't see anythink wrong, one doc is for ACPI only, so that one tell you to add it to runlevel
And the other use ACPI, but is a doc about laptop_mode, so asking laptop_mode added to runlevel, there's no need to add ACPI as it's a dependency and openrc will start it for you.
And adding both to runlevel won't help : if acpi cannot start, laptop_mode won't too.
