Hi there.

I downloaded the minimum install .iso, and burned it to a USB, as my computer's DVD drive is out of action. I can boot, and get to the login, but it will not me login as root. No password gives me an incorrect login warning.

Can anyone help?

Cheers!

Welcome to Gentoo!

The install CD shouldn't require a login. The current ISO may be bad.

May I recommend using the System Rescue CD. The install environment doesn't affect your install and the System Rescue CD has several tools that can be particularly helpful in the areas of networking and partitioning. Not to mention it has a web browser so you can read the handbook at the same time. In truth, any Linux environment that includes chroot can be used.

Apologies if I take a while to respond. I'm currently working on the dematerialization circuit for my blue box.

alamudi ... unless you convert the minimal-install-*.iso to "iso hybrid" then you will have issues with making a USB bootable disk (at least one that actually boots). You could convet the minimal iso as syslinux provides a tool called 'isohybrid' that can be used for such a purpose ...

Code:
# isohybrid filename.iso
# dd if=filename.iso of=/dev/sdX

... but as the Doctor pointed out the sysrescuecd is better for install purposes ...

best ... khay
