Hello all,

I wonder if I could get some help to fix a problem of getting a black screen after installation. When I reboot my PC after installation, I was able to see some messages on the screen, but suddenly they just disappeared; literally nothing shows up on the screen (not even a cursor). I searched for a solution in this forum, but I couldn't find a useful one. It seems the problem is specific to a hardware configuration. Plz refer to the below dmesg and the output of lspci -k. FYI, my graphics card is NVIDIA K600.

Note that I didn't include frame buffer devices in the kernel as stated in https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Xorg/Configuration.

* dmesg

* lspci -k

* kernel config

Hi aeronova:

Please, show Xorg.0.log

Did you edit "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/nvidia.conf" with..?
Code:
 Section "Device"
   Identifier  "nvidia"
   Driver      "nvidia"
 EndSection

run #gpasswd -a <your_name> video?

run #modprobe nvidia?

Try Alt+F4, ¿it show the console?

Hi natrix,

Thanks for the reply, but I realized that my dmesg was not the one I got from my system. It turned out that I had a kernel panic due to some other problems that I'm not sure of. I resolved the problem by rebuilding a kernel with genkernel. Afterwards, I was able to run X window. Thanks anyway!
