and I've got the following partitions:

sda1 ext2 2mb /bios_grub
sda2 ext2 130mb /boot
sda3 swap 500mb /swap
sda4 ext4 586gb /root

Am I to mark sda2 as boot or sda1 to start the boot process?

TIA,
Bill

From that setup, I'm guessing you've got BIOS/GPT? Anyways, if you're not double booting or doing anything tricky with where grub2 is installed, it shouldn't matter too much what's marked bootable. As long as grub2 is installed in the MBR correctly, it should be able to locate everything on it's own. Would you mind pasting the "grub2-install" line you used, just to be sure?

# grub2-install /dev/sda

I pretty much followed the installation instructions right down the line.

Anyway, thanks for your input gotyaoi. I think I'll just go ahead and shut the box down and turn it back on and see what transpires.

Bill

What transpired was a boot into a grub2 prompt and every attempt to boot to a /dev/sdax returned a "you need to load the kernel first".

So, how do I load the kernel first? All my attempts returned the same response.

Help is greatly appreciated!

Bill
