So I tried installing Gentoo from Knoppix live disk but when I try to compile the kernel I get an error saying my processor doesnt support x86_64 instruction set.I looked into the kernel configuration menu but couldn't find any setting. I understand that I maybe didn't choose the right kernel,
so the question is:Which is the right kernel for AMD-FX8350?
Thanks in Advance

I believe that processor will absolutely understand the x86_64 instruction set. Are you following the handbook, and did you choose the right stage3? I'm wondering if the knoppix kernel did not like the binaries in the stage3. It might help to post the actual error message you are seeing. I have had decent luck using SystemRescueCD (www.sysresccd.org), I have not used knoppix for a long time. I have a AMD FX-8150 processor. I could post my .config if it would help.

Did you boot Knoppix 64-bit kernel?

Here it says:
Quote:
Optional 64-bit Kernel via boot option "knoppix64", supporting systems with more than 4GB of RAM and chroot to 64-bit installations for system rescue tasks (DVD version only).

Maybe you didn't boot with the 64 bit kernel?
Anyway, using SystemRescueCD would probably be a better bet, since it's Gentoo-based (and recommended by Funtoo).
Or you can use an official Gentoo live image, as described in the Gentoo Handbook (you're following it, right?).

Maybe I should try the official live disk since that's what the handbook says.
