I'm in the middle of a project that needs to watch the insertion and removal of media and am in the process of writing some python scripting to watch the dbus system bus for udisk events. Since the documentation for that is somewhat lacking out on the web, I edited the gentoo wiki for Udisks with some sample code and examples of events.

That script should run fine on an RHEL6 or CentOS6 system, but version 5 is still stuck back on HAL. I guess I'll have to figure that listener out as well.
