Hi,

I have a problem when using externally mounted devices, such as USB and microSD.
I am using LG Z360 ultrabook which has 2 microSD slots and recently posted that sometimes gentoo recognises it and sometimes it doesn't - and my solution was just to keep restarting until it does.
Well I found that reloading xhci_hcd module partly solves the problem.
I tried to compile the kernel with xhci integrated (rather than as module) but this actually stopped my above solution to work anymore therefore I am loading xhci_hcd as a module.
I say partly because at times it just randomly disappears (physically reinserting doesn't do anything), in which case I have to reload xhci_hcd for it to work. However, I have also found a pattern where microSD will stay on if Gentoo recognises on boot.

Now the reason I am posting here is that I have issues with other media devices, such as USB and mobile devices.
When I am trying to copy many and large files (a couple of hundreds MB) from USB to my SDD where gentoo is installed. It freezes and suddenly unmounts itself. I just have to replug it for it to work. Obviously it is not an issue on Windows 8 (I have a dual Boot).

I would be grateful if anyone has any idea for solution.

Thank you!

Have you checked for a module panic in the kernel's log? There might very be a panic log for xhci_hcd [or any other module] while you notice the issue.
