Hi!

I installed my kernel via genkernel and booted to it. It got stuck at 'waiting for uevents to be processed' so I added 'radeon.modeset=0' to grub.cfg and all was good.

Then I tried to install fglrx. I used 'genkernel --menuconfig all' to compile the new kernel and initramfs. Now I cannot boot into the system :( It gets stuck at 'Loading initramfs...' and doesn't move a bit. Any idea how to go about debugging this one?

boot livecd/usb, mount gentoo partitions, enter chroot, remove 'radeon.modeset=0' from grub.cfg, ensure /etc/portage/make.conf contains VIDEO_CARDS="fglrx" and INPUT_DEVICES="evdev", run
Code:
genkernel --menuconfig all
edit menuconfig to

Thanks. I tried that but it wasn't enough. After several tries of doing the same compilation again and again, I eventuall ran 'grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg' and did the trick.

Well done.

Interesting, apparently a direct removal of 'radeon.modeset=0' from grub.cfg did not work requiring the full blown remake of grub.cfg. maybe an extra or missing whitespace?
