So after finally diagnosing my issues with my initramfs and kernel, I am back up and running fully in sync with portage and feel good to go.

However, I have ran into a bizarre issue since migrating to systemd/Gnome3. Systemd seems to bail out saying it can't find my boot and swap devices (on dmraid). Root partition mounts fine but systemd dumps me to a maintenance terminal. I log in as root, df -h, mount, and swapon -s and my swap partition and boot partition certainly aren't mounted. If I mount -a everything mounts fine, followed by systemctl default and I get a nice full system boot.

If I pass nofail as an option in fstab my system boots "fine" obviously as well but I just do not have boot or swap partitions mounted. So after getting into gnome I must run "mount -a" and "swapon -a" every time.

I have been searching/debugging all day on this with no luck, so I thought I'd come here for help.

Thanks!

I hope this answer your version question:
Code:
sys-apps/systemd-212-r5
sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-3.12.21-r1

And yes, I am using an initrd with dmraid support:
Code:
sys-kernel/genkernel-next-55
sys-fs/dmraid-1.0.0_rc16-r3

Notable warnings/errors from `journalctl -b`:
Code:
Jul 20 18:36:42 water systemd[1]: Job dev-mapper-isw_bajdhehehh_RAID01.device/start timed out.
Jul 20 18:36:42 water systemd[1]: Timed out waiting for device dev-mapper-isw_bajdhehehh_RAID01.device.
Jul 20 18:36:42 water systemd[1]: Dependency failed for /boot.
Jul 20 18:36:42 water systemd[1]: Dependency failed for File System Check on /dev/mapper/isw_bajdhehehh_RAID01.

I would try dracut to generate such environment of an initrd. Look up what version you will need:
$ less http://git.kernel.org/cgit/boot/dracut/dracut.git/tree/NEWS
And think of special systemd /etc/fstab options available recently!
