Hi Experts, I need to install multiple versions of Java on my Gentoo server. I have copied the .jdk.tar.gz file for both Java 1.7 and Java 1. 8 under the directory /usr/portage/distfiles.

When I do emerge --ask jdk, it gives me the below o/p :-

Gauss Softwares # emerge --ask jdk

* IMPORTANT: 6 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
* Use eselect news to read news items.

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild NS ~] virtual/jdk-1.8.0 [1.6.0-r2]

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]

It just shows me jdk-1.8.0.

When I do 'java-config -L', i see :-

Gauss Softwares # java-config -L
The following VMs are available for generation-2:
1) IcedTea JDK 6.1.13.3 [icedtea-bin-6]
*) Oracle JDK 1.8.0.11 [oracle-jdk-bin-1.8]

How can I install both jdk-bin.1.8 and 1.7 ? Please help me.

Appreciate all your help in advance.

You need to specify what java versions you need ex:
emerge -av jdk:1.7 jdk:1.8
