Hey guys,

I've recently upgraded my box and I liked the idea to start playing with IOMMU. Maybe I don't know enough about IOMMU, but I feel like what's happening is not normal.

DISCLAIMER: I'm using pf-sources 3.15-p4, and I don't see how that would be a problem. If someone points me to a bug report or knows about a certain incompatibility I'll test again with gentoo-sources.

This is my hardware:

00:18.4 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Family 15h Processor Function 4
00:18.5 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Family 15h Processor Function 5
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF116 [GeForce GTX 550 Ti] (rev a1)
01:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation GF116 High Definition Audio Controller (rev a1)
02:00.0 USB controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. Device 3483 (rev 01)
03:06.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8185 IEEE 802.11a/b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 20)
04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 06)

This setup is working with a AMD FX-8350 CPU.

The problem is that when I activate inside the kernel IOMMU support (any variant: GART_IOMMU, CALGARY_IOMMU, IOMMU_SUPPORT vía AMD_IOMMU and/or AMD_IOMMU_V2, etc), X.org fails to start, leaving this in messages:

Code:
Aug  3 04:30:48 sakura kernel: NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x26:0x38:1203)
Aug  3 04:30:48 sakura kernel: NVRM: rm_init_adapter failed for device bearing minor number 0
Aug  3 04:30:48 sakura kernel: NVRM: nvidia_frontend_open: minor 0, module->open() failed, error -5

Here there are two settings that also I've tried with AMD_IOMMU and AMD_IOMMU_V2 with no success, but with CALGARY_IOMMU and without AMD_IOMMU*, it worked fine.

I don't understand. Maybe I don't have hardware support? Isn't supposed that my hardware supports/needs that module driver?

Maybe I'm a bit lost. Any hint is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
