Hello,
I made edit
/etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf
Code:
firmware /usr/share/sane/snapscan/ESFW30.BIN

and try
sane-find-scanner

scanimage -L

and no results, sane can't found my scanner.
also Xsane can't found my Acer 640U
And I can found usb Id's
Code:
# grep 2060 /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf
usb 0x04a5 0x2060

also I read here http://snapscan.sourceforge.net/
about kernel module CONFIG_USB_SCANNER, in kernel no such configuration existed.

According to http://snapscan.sourceforge.net/ you need u96v121.bin
ESFW30.BIN is for Epson Perfection 1670

Yes, now that found one scanned, but not more
Code:
# sane-find-scanner

  # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
  # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
  # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

  # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
  # you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

According to this page

you need in your make.conf
Code:
SANE_BACKENDS="snapscan"

Then rebuild sane-backends
