Hi,

I tried to install Gentoo on my Sony Vaio VPC-EB3L1E (I hate that notebook) but the ethernet doesn´t work.
lspci tells me it is a Marvell Yukon Optima 88E8059 [PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Controller with AVB] (rev 11).
ifconfig shows the device and if I configure it with a static IP address it´s being shown there too but
no communication. Reloading the sky2 module does not work properly. If the module is unloaded once
the device never shows up again. I tried the newest Knoppix and a few other live environments with the
same result.

I have a running x86_64 Gentoo enviroment with kernel 3.14.14-gentoo now compiled with genkernel.
I messed a bit around and deactivated IPv6 but no luck.
I can´t use WiFi for now it is important that ethernet is working.

Any suggestions? :(

edit:
I was wrong the reloading of the driver works and it shows up again.

edit 2:
OK it turned out to be something more sinister than a simple driver problem. When I connect my notebook to
a switch which is connected to my router then everything works, but when I connect the notebook directly
to the router the ethernet is dead. It seems like some of the low level protocols don´t work with either the
linux driver or the chipset itself.

I will investigate a little further and test the craptop with Windows 7 and look if the problem persists,
but not now. It could be a bug in the linux driver but consider this thread as "solved".
