I am trying to setup a diskless Gentoo system following the instructions from here. I was able to make it work properly a week ago but after reinstalling Gentoo on the computer acting as the server and following the same setup as before the client no longer boots. It successfully goes through DHCP gets an address uses TFTP to get the kernel binary and it executes up to the point where it tries to mount the root filesystem at which point if fails.

The boot options TFTP passes my client are:
Code:

DEFAULT /bzImage
APPEND ip=dhcp root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=192.168.0.2:/home/cluster/default netconsole=6666@192.168.0.8/eth1,6666@192.168.0.2/

Monitoring on port 6666 from the server I get back:
Code:

[   40.572644] IP-Config: Got DHCP answer from 192.168.0.2, my address is 192.168.0.8
[   40.731324] IP-Config: Complete:

My server is 192.168.0.2 and the client is 192.168.0.8.

As for /etc/exports:
Code:

/home/cluster/default  192.168.0.0/24(sync,rw,no_root_squash,no_all_squash,no_subtree_check)

/opt   192.168.0.0/24(sync,ro,no_root_squash,no_all_squash,no_subtree_check)
/usr   192.168.0.0/24(sync,ro,no_root_squash,no_all_squash,no_subtree_check)
/home  192.168.0.0/24(sync,rw,no_root_squash,no_all_squash,no_subtree_check)

I've tried nearly everything to make it work. I've gone through my kernel configuration several times checked /etc/exports and /etc/hosts.allow but I still can't figure it out. Also, I am able to mount the root filesystem of my client when I boot the client off a Gentoo install disk, so it would seem that the server is working yet my client still is unable to mount it when I pxeboot. Does anyone know what is going on here?

Thanks

Thank you so much.

I just tried it and am able to boot properly again. My best bet was on version mismatch but I couldn't find instances where people forced the kernel to mount with particular NFS versions.
