Hi!

Please help to resolve this usb-related problems.

Unexpected behaviour: after success working, now unable mount any USB drive by kde system applet for removable devices or any alternative way.
When inserted USB drive - no any messages in dmesg.

When load old 3.12 kernel its OK.
Also when run lsusb its running ok and devices detected and can be mount but it unstable.

Its also worked good with kernel 3.14.14 some time without any special actions at first time - as 3.14 appears in portage with stable status, but on last days this problem is raised.
I cant determinate which package can block it.

My configuration:

kernel config:
http://bpaste.net/show/628396/

kernel config with grep USB:
http://bpaste.net/show/628438/

emerge info:
http://bpaste.net/show/628397/

eix -I usb:
http://bpaste.net/show/628399/

lsmod:
http://bpaste.net/show/628403/

latest emerging:
http://bpaste.net/show/628433/

I will be grateful for your advices and any recommendations.

Thanks.

Problem solved.

After reading this post https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-908224-start-0.html (too old but some useful) and adding self to plugdev and disk all working.

I dont know what important plugdev or disk group but it works for me.

So, if any encounter this problem check:

groups

and

usermod -a -G plugdev,disk username

Interesting question how it works without membership in these groups :o

Im sorry and thanks

Problem still exists. Membership in plugdev, disk didn't help - its mistake. Sorry.

lsusb command help to detecting inserted removable device, but after success mount it self unmounted.

Problem still not solved.

Forced to switching gentoo-sources-3.12.21-r1 from 3.14
Working quite.

In my case it seems that sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-3.14.14 not working correctly with usb hdd in detecting.
Maybe later try unstable kernels.

I dint know how to resolve this problem while. Since 2004 using gentoo (or maybe its unstable kernel) - its happen first one.
It seems also that when USB3 started these problems are beginning in linux world. May be I'm not right of course but I cant perform daily backup to usb hdd.
Its not hardware problem and not kde problem. Its seems that derived from kernel or (udev?)

Hope its only my mistakes and will fixed soon. I'm sorry that no bug report - its while unconfirmed.

Hi,

Finally, reason found:

Its my powersave script that loading in rc.local section, that created by powertop hints:
Code:

#Autosuspend for USB device USB Optical Mouse [Logitech]
#Autosuspend for USB device USB 2.0 UVC HD Webcam [SuYin]
echo 'auto' > '/sys/bus/usb/devices/1-3/power/control'

#Autosuspend for USB device Bluetooth USB Host Controller [Atheros Communications]
echo 'auto' > '/sys/bus/usb/devices/2-4/power/control'

#Autosuspend for USB device EHCI Host Controller [usb1]
echo 'auto' > '/sys/bus/usb/devices/usb1/power/control'

#Autosuspend for USB device xHCI Host Controller [usb3]
echo 'auto' > '/sys/bus/usb/devices/usb3/power/control'

#Autosuspend for USB device xHCI Host Controller [usb4]
echo 'auto' > '/sys/bus/usb/devices/usb4/power/control'

#Autosuspend for USB device OHCI Host Controller [usb2]
echo 'auto' > '/sys/bus/usb/devices/usb2/power/control'

After disable it all works quite.

I decide disable this script after testing latest gentoo-sources kernel with version 3.16.1 because my USB drives not recognized by system. After this all mounted and detecting ok.

It seems that, after 3.14 Autosuspend behaviour in USB devices is changed.

Now problem resolved.

Thanks for all.
