I'm fed up of systemd and udev. A search found me that gentoo has alternatives, whoopee! (I am completely uninterested in any arguments to the contrary and will ignore them if offered)

Going through the install, I find that the initial system that I have chrooted to is running udev. I do not want udev, I want eudev instead.

How can I get rid of udev and install eudev in this chrooted environment. I tried searching these forums, but all I find is the damned argument. I need instructions (at least until I have a working gentoo system to learn with)

Every time I remove udev, when I try and install eudev emerge wants to install loads of x11 libs, I have not yet built the kernel!! I just want the initial system!!

Help!

theoldfellow,

Welcome to Gentoo.

You don't need to be in the chroot.

Unless something has changed recently
Code:
emerge -C udev && emerge eudev
should do what you want.
If you reboot when neither are installed your /dev will be empty, which is a very bad thing and you will need to get back into the chroot to fix it.

In addition to using eudev I added systemd and udev to my package mask.
